About the Company

A growing defense-focused manufacturer is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead accounting operations and ensure compliance with government contract regulations. This individual will oversee financial reporting, cost accounting, and internal controls, and serve as a key business partner to operations and leadership.

Core Responsibilities

• Manage all general ledger, AR/AP, disbursements, and payroll accounting functions
• Lead the monthly close process and prepare financial statements
• Ensure timely and accurate revenue recognition under ASC 606, including % of completion
• Approve and manage outgoing ACH, wire, and check payments
• Maintain financial policies and procedures to support audit readiness and control

Government Contract & Compliance Oversight

• Act as Subject Matter Expert on CAS, FAR/DFARS, and indirect cost structures
• Prepare and submit provisional billing rates and Incurred Cost Proposals (ICP) to DCMA
• Serve as point of contact for all external audits, including DCAA and financial audits
• Ensure compliance with government accounting standards and ITAR requirements
• Maintain proper labor distribution and payroll journal entries in accordance with contract guidelines

Financial Planning & Analysis

• Assist in the preparation and review of annual budgets and forecasts
• Conduct variance analysis for departments and programs
• Support cost control efforts and lean/sigma-based process improvements
• Provide operational and financial metrics to leadership for decision-making
• Deliver ad hoc financial analysis using Excel and ERP tools

Cost Accounting & ERP Systems

• Maintain and enhance standard cost systems within SAP or equivalent ERP
• Perform labor and overhead postings, cost center reporting, and analysis
• Support IFRS consolidation and quarterly financial reporting requirements
• Ensure accurate reconciliations and reporting across balance sheet and P&L

Team Leadership & Cross-Functional Support

• Supervise accounting, disbursement, and accounts receivable staff
• Coordinate financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders
• Collaborate with tax advisors on filings and compliance
• Partner with operations on financial visibility and cost initiatives

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 5+ years of experience in government contracting or manufacturing accounting
• Proficient in U.S. GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and FAR/DFARS compliance
• Skilled in ERP systems (SAP preferred) and advanced Excel functions
• U.S. Citizenship
• Ability to obtain and maintain Secret Clearance
• Strong written, verbal, and analytical skills; works independently with minimal oversight

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA preferred
• Background in public accounting or complex corporate environments
• Familiarity with IFRS and international financial reporting
• Prior experience supporting DCAA/DCMA audits
• Experience in ITAR-compliant facilities
