The North American Food Safety A&M Team ensures that all Amazon Fulfillment sites meet Food Safety criteria and regulatory requirements. They collaborate with a diverse range of internal stakeholders to implement comprehensive policies and procedures across the fulfillment network. They excel at translating food safety initiatives into clear, actionable guidelines, facilitating seamless adoption across the fulfillment network.

Key job responsibilities

- Audit and monitor comprehensive programs to drive food safety execution for maximum proficiency and effectiveness
- Maintain a robust set of compliance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure output performance, track progress, and identify areas for improvement in food safety programs
- Execute rapid response protocols for food safety incidents to investigate, resolve, and document comprehensive corrective actions
- Lead and project manage complex, large-scale food safety escalations across multiple sites, establishing clear action plans, tracking deliverables, and driving accountability for timely closure while maintaining appropriate communication channels with senior leadership for critical updates and resource needs
- Demonstrate proven ability to influence and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels, from site operations to senior leadership, effectively balancing competing priorities while maintaining food safety compliance standards and driving program adherence across multiple facilities
- Analyze escalation patterns and root causes to identify systemic issues, informing audit priorities and presenting findings to senior leadership
- Participate in an on-call rotation, including weekend coverage, with up to 60% travel to support food safety incidents and program implementation across the network
- Compose and edit detailed business review documents to effectively communicate food safety improvement initiatives
- Leverage deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks including Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), and FDA guidelines to ensure audit processes and corrective actions align with current standards
- Investigate and analyze customer complaints and trending data related to food safety, ensuring thorough documentation and timely resolution while identifying systemic issues for continuous improvement

A day in the life
Your day begins with a review of overnight incident reports and alerts while monitoring real-time KPI dashboards. During your morning coffee, you join the daily food safety status call, where you brief the team on current investigations and emerging concerns. By mid-morning, you're deep into responding to emails from various site managers, providing guidance on their food safety questions and documenting corrective actions in the tracking system.

The afternoon might find you leading a cross-functional team meeting to analyze a recent quality incident, or conducting a site audit with one of your facilities. You'll spend time reviewing and updating food safety protocols, preparing reports for tomorrow's leadership review, and training site teams on new procedures via video conference.

However, your day can quickly pivot if a critical food safety incident arises. In these situations, you'll immediately switch gears to coordinate containment actions, lead emergency response meetings, and manage communications with key stakeholders. Whether you're on-site conducting physical audits, in the office analyzing data, or responding to urgent situations, no two days are exactly alike. Your role requires both structured routine tasks and the flexibility to handle unexpected challenges as they arise.

The day typically wraps up with documentation of findings, updating investigation tracking systems, and ensuring all site teams have the support they need for their overnight operations. While most days end at a regular time, you remain on-call for any critical incidents that may require immediate attention.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field
- 5+ years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality in a large-scale retail or manufacturing environment (multi-store/multi-plant)
- Experience applying Food Code requirements across local, state, and federal food regulations
- Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements
- Program Management experience
- Project Management experience
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level
