Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Dumper Operator

Position Overview:

The Hot Mix Dumper is responsible to transport and deliver hot mix asphalt (HMA) from asphalt plants to active paving sites. This role requires precision, timing, and safe driving practices to ensure efficient delivery and continuous paving operations. The ideal candidate has experience backing into pavers, working in tight construction zones, and coordinating with paving crews.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Haul hot mix asphalt safely from plant to paving site, ensuring timely and continuous supply.
• Back up accurately and steadily to the paving machine without disrupting the mat or equipment.
• Communicate with paving crew, flaggers, and other drivers using hand signals, radios, or direct communication.
• Maintain proper dumping techniques to avoid segregation, cold joints, or end-of-load defects.
• Follow designated haul routes, speed limits, and site access instructions.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections and minor maintenance (e.g., tire pressure, fluid levels).
• Ensure the truck bed is clean and treated to prevent asphalt from sticking (using release agents as needed).
• Keep accurate delivery logs and paperwork as required.
• Follow all safety protocols and company procedures, especially in live traffic or confined work zones.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum OSHA 10 required.
• 2+ years of experience hauling hot mix asphalt for paving projects.
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with clean driving record.
• Strong backing skills and experience working around paving machines.
• Familiarity with DOT regulations, load securement, and asphalt safety.
• Ability to work in high-temperature, high-pressure environments.
• Availability for long hours, nights, and weekend work during peak paving season.
• Must pass drug test and pre-employment screening.
