Job Description and Duties

The  Office Technician (Typing) will be directed by the Recovery Mall Services Program Director and/or Program Assistant at the Department of State Hospitals - Atascadero (ASH). Under general direction, performs a variety of the more difficult duties for the RMS Management staff and other RMS staff with a minimum of supervision. Exercises a high degree of initiative, originality, and independence in performing assigned tasks. Independently originate correspondence involving the knowledge and application of RMS program and hospital policies and procedures. This position requires the use of good judgment and the ability to communicate effectively. The incumbent will be responsible for the following duties but not limited to:

• Use clerical and computer skills to prepare and maintain document files, spreadsheets and data base systems. 
• Act as the receptionist to Recovery Mall Services.
• Utilizes computer skills to compose and type correspondence, prepare and/or complete various documents, and data entry.

2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
  • The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.

You MUST submit a valid typing certificate  with a minimum speed of 40 NET WPM  that meets  . Typing tests for certification must be 5 minutes in length and proctored either virtually or in person. Candidates that are current State employees in a typing classification DO NOT need to submit a typing certificate.

Higher degrees cannot be accepted without evidence of the lower degree that leads to it. Please note: foreign transcripts must include a verification for US equivalency through an independent company.

    If using State Civil Service Out of Class (OOC) experience to meet minimum qualifications, you MUST provide a copy of the approved OOC Completion Memorandum certifying your OOC experience. Failure to submit the required documents will result in the OOC experience not being applied towards meeting the minimum qualifications of the classification.  If you are not basing your eligibility on Out of Class experience, you may instead use the bypass option (when applying, select Choose/Upload for the required document and then select Bypass File).
