Duties Description The Nathan S. Kline Institute for Psychiatric Research (NKI) is a dedicated research facility of the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) located on the grounds of Rockland Psychiatric Center in Orangeburg, NY. NKI is affiliated with the New York University Langone Medical Center (NYULMC), located in midtown Manhattan. Applications are currently being invited for a full-time Research Scientist 3 position within NKI's Emotional Brain Institute (EBI). The candidate is expected to independently maintain the colonies of EBI's laboratories and supervise transgenic line breeding, genotyping, early-life manipulations, behavioral testing preparation, post-surgical supervision and animal purchasing/shipping. The candidate should also independently maintain compliance with all institutional, federal, and state regulations regarding animal care and use, including IACUC protocols and documentation.

Minimum Qualifications Minimum: bachelor's degree and four years of professional research experience** in an appropriate field. Preferred: The candidate will hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) and have a strong background in mouse genetics, transgenic colony maintenance, behavioral testing, stereotaxic surgeries, and chemo-/optogenetics. We are seeking someone capable of independently managing the rodent colonies that support the department's laboratories.The department consists of eight research groups: six working with mice and two with both mice and rats. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience managing and genotyping mutant mouse colonies, as well as a strong understanding of Cre-loxP mouse line crossings. Experience in rodent stereotaxic surgery and post-operative care is essential, along with expertise in handling rodents used in behavioral experiments and performing early-life manipulations. The selected candidate should also have proficiency in the compliance regulations regarding animal use and care.
