Job Description

Overview:

As a Healthcare Specialist, you will administer emergency medical care in the field in both combat and humanitarian situations. You will serve as a first responder and triage illnesses and injuries to save lives. You will also train other Soldiers in lifesaver/first responder courses.

Job Duties:

  • Administer emergency medical treatment to battlefield casualties.
  • Assist with outpatient and inpatient care and treatment.
  • Prepare blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare patients, operating rooms, equipment, and supplies for surgery.


Requirements:

Those who want to serve must first take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a series of tests that helps you better understand your strengths and identify which Army jobs are best for you.

B asic eligibility:

  • Age at least 17-42 years old
  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • Citizen of the United States or green card holder.
  • No major financial issues.
  • No major medical issues.
  • No major criminal issues.

Training:

Training for a healthcare specialist requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training, and 16 weeks of Advanced Individual Training, including practice in patent care.

Some of the skills you will learn are:

  • Patient care techniques.
  • Emergency medical techniques.
  • Methods of sterilizing surgical equipment.
  • Plaster-casting techniques.


Required ASVAB Score(s):

  • General Technical (GT): 107
  • Skilled Technical (ST): 101

Compensation:
